A Message of Hope: The Global Prison Ambassador

Dear Listeners, it is our pleasure to bring you a message of hope during these times of great global uncertainty by introducing you to Mr. Yinka Lawanson (stage name Lamboginny), an amazing Afrobeat musician who is a Global Prison Ambassador with the United Nations and a graduate of YALI, the Young African Leaders Initiative of the State Department. Lamboginny is passionate about the human rights of prisoners all over the world, and intentionally uses his music platform to draw attention to prison conditions in his native country of Nigeria as well as in the rest of Africa and also the United States of America, the country that has the highest number of people incarcerated in the world. We hope you enjoy this episode and you feel inspired to also use your talents and skills to bring love and compassion into this world of ours.

This trailer is an introduction to the One in Four Podcast, a conversation series of 10 episodes on the reentry process of the formerly incarcerated in the Washington D.C. metro area, which includes the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia. One in Four stands for, “one in four adult Americans has a criminal record,” which means that the chances of knowing someone who has spent time in prison or jail are pretty high. The goal of this podcast is to HUMANIZE; EDUCATE; and ELEVATE the conversations about reentry of the formerly incarcerated. We want to provide an intimate platform that gives voice to the formerly incarcerated, to representative of service organizations that support and facilitate the reentry process, and to public officials who are vested in a successful transition from prison to everyday life. Our target audience are ordinary people who care about this issue but may not know enough about what it is like to come home after spending time behind bars. Everyone who cares about the issue of mass incarceration in this country can play a role in ensuring people are not defined by their worse mistakes and have the tools they need to successfully reintegrate.
