Episode Summary

In this episode, we are focusing on the topic of mental health and re-entry. Research has shown that incarceration often causes people to suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder or PTSD when coming out of the prison system. Although there are also many people who have mental illnesses inside our prison system and often do not get the treatments they need. We dedicate this episode to Joshua Tyron Samuel, a Free Minds Book Club member and 2019 Congressman John Lewis Fellow. Joshua’s life was unexpectedly cut short on September 30th 2019. He was only 27 years old. Joshua was passionate about bringing healing and love to all those who suffer from trauma. His legacy continues through the many lives he touched, including ours.
